This guide is an ‘industry procedure’ as defined in the Safety Manual – Electricity Industry (SM-EI) and provides recommended ways of achieving SM-EI requirements for supervision. Specific and general requirements of SM-EI must also be followed for all work; however, these are not repeated here.

Changes from 2018 version to 2024 version

The previous version of this guide was reviewed in 2017 and issued as an interim guide pending feedback from industry, as there was no feedback received at the time the guide was published in 2018 and contained two distinct parts.

Part 1 was a duplication of existing regulations and a summary of case law relating to supervision.

To streamline the guide and remove duplication Part 1 has been removed and references to various legislative requirements added where applicable.

Part 2 has been retained and reviewed for relevancy and updated where required with updated links to other supervision requirements, for example Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) supervision of trainees.

The EEA will monitor the Guide and suggestions for changes should be sent to admin@eea.co.nz.
